Pirton Tennis Club

  1. NAME: The name of the Club formed on 10th June 2002 shall be named Pirton Tennis Club.
  2. ADDRESS: The Club's business address shall be 17 West Lane, Pirton, Herts SG5 3PA.
  3. STATUS: The Club is a non-profit making Members' Club whose objective is the provision of lawn tennis, social and other facilities for its Members, governed by this constitution and rules.  A copy of this Constitution and Rules shall be prominently displayed on the Club Notice Board and all members shall be deemed to be conversant therewith.The Rules are set out in Section 2.
  4. AFFILIATION: The Club may seek affiliation to The Lawn Tennis Association (known as LTA) through the appropriate County Lawn Tennis Association and may adopt and conform to the rules of these organisations in so far as they apply.
  5. CLASSES OF MEMBER: There shall be the following Classes of Member:



Junior (under 18 on the 1st May of the Membership Year)

Attached Junior (Junior living with an Adult member or Couple members)  

Membership shall be at the sole discretion of the Committee

  1. SUBSCRIPTION RATES: The subscription rate will be decided annually and will be published separately.

In the event of the Club being liable for Value Added Tax (or any other tax) on member's subscriptions, the figures shown above shall be inclusive thereof.

The subscription year runs from May 1st to April 30th the following year.

The subscription shall be due upon Application for membership and will be repayable if membership is not granted at the discretion of the Committee.

For a new member joining after the 31st October, the Committee may, at their discretion, accept a reduced subscription for the part year.

Likewise, they may at their discretion make a refund to a member who becomes unable to use the Club for a substantial part of the year on account of injury, illness, or departure from the district.

Members must pay the appropriate annual fee for affiliation to the Pirton Tennis Club.  If the Club is affiliated to the LTA, every member must pay a player's contribution to the County LTA.  The rates of contribution are decided annually at the AGM of the LTA, and will be part of the Club's annual subscription.

  1. ACCOUNTANCY YEAR: The Club's financial year shall run from May 1st to April 30th and the accounts submitted to the AGM shall be prepared accordingly.
  2. MEMBERSHIP: The Committee shall have the power to limit the number of members in the respective Classes if they consider it necessary.
  3. SUSPENSION OR EXPULSION: The Committee shall have the power to terminate or suspend the membership of any member or visitor whom it considers guilty of a breach of this Constitution and Rules, or of misconduct or offensive behaviour to any other member or visitor in connection with the Club.
  4. MANAGEMENT: The management of the Club shall be in the control of a maximum Committee of ten members (aged 18 and over).  All shall be elected for the year at the AGM, except that the elected Committee shall have the power to fill any vacancy.

The Committee may make and revise the Club's Constitution and Rules and shall have the power to decide any matter not provided for by these.

  1. MEETINGS: The Committee shall meet at least four times in every year and additionally as circumstances may require.  The quorum at a Committee meeting shall be three, and in the event of equality of voting the Chair shall have a second or casting vote.  The Committee may delegate any part of its duties to one or more sub-committees, which may be composed of any members of the Club.
  2. GENERAL MEETING: An Annual General Meeting shall be held each year between March 1st and April 30th inclusive.

The Committee shall call an extraordinary general meeting at their discretion or within one month of receipt by the Secretary of a requisition signed by 20 members, or, if the total membership is less than 100, by one fifth of the members, stating the business proposed to be transacted.

Any member wishing to propose a resolution at the AGM must send a copy thereof to the Secretary before November 1st so that provision may be made on the Agenda.  The Secretary shall send to every member at least seven day's notice of any general meeting, together with a copy of the Agenda.

Every member shall be invited to attend and will be able to speak to any general meeting and if aged 12 and over, to vote thereat.  In the event of an equality of votes the Chair shall have a second or casting vote.

  1. DISSOLUTION: The Club shall be dissolved on the passing of a resolution to that effect at a general meeting.  Due notice must be given to all members of this proposal.  The decision is based on two thirds of those present and voting.


The rules are as follows and are to be provided to any prospective new members in conjunction with an application form.

  1. Upon acceptance to the Club, members will be issued with a membership card.  This must be kept safe and is necessary for obtaining a security code to be used to gain access to the courts. If the membership card is lost, a replacement fee will be charged.  The Committee reserves the right to refuse admission to the Club or withdraw membership if deemed necessary.  For example, if these Rules or the Club's Constitution are breached.
  2. All players must wear suitable, clean, tennis shoes or plimsolls, so as not to damage the court's surface.  These shoes are not to be worn off court. Suitable clothing should be worn at all times.
  3. Club members are responsible for keeping the court free from litter and ensuring access to the courts is secure at all times. Pets, pushchairs, bicycles etc. are not permitted on these courts.  Children (under 12) using the courts must be properly supervised by an adult.
  4. Players must not make excessive noise whilst at the courts, and are not permitted to play any other sport other than tennis during the booked period.
  5. The courts are primarily for the use of members and they will receive priority at all times. Non-member guests may play a maximum of five times per year, provided a member accompanies them. Members who abuse this guest rule may be subject to suspension.
  6. For availability of courts see separate booking system sheet.  Courts must be booked in accordance with the court booking rules.
  7. The nets and other equipment provided by the Club must be treated carefully and returned to their rightful place.
  8. Any damages or problems must be reported to a Club committee member as soon as possible.
  9. The Committee/Club accepts no responsibility for accidents, damage, or theft to persons or property whilst at the tennis courts/facility/activities in connection with the Club.
  10. The Committee reserves the right to change these Rules if and when necessary.
