Kathlyn Studman - Plums and Pansy

My late husband (Bill) and I were born in Hitchin. We met in 1934 and eventually married in 1937 in St. Mary's Church. We lived in Hitchin until 1969 when we moved to Pirton during October of that year.

I chose fruit to do in memory of my husband Bill, who for many years was a prolific prizewinner at the annual village flower and vegetable show.

The design was copied from a Kaffe Fassett tapestry, and transferred onto a chart on computer by my granddaughter Andie.

As for myself I enjoyed taking part in so many different pursuits and felt very privileged when I was invited to help with work involved in the making of this wonderful screen. I am sure this will give a great deal of pleasure to all the people who will eventually see it and that they will realise it is a great tribute to all the people in the village who helped with this project. It tells a story of villagers past and present who have contributed so much to this lovely village, as we know it today.

Until my dear husband passed away in 1998 we spent a very happy life here, becoming involved in all sorts of activities.  Bill became involved with the Pumpkin Club, the Village Hall Committee, the Rands Trust and the Friends of St. Mary's Church. He was Chairman of the Friends of the Church from1976 until 1991 when sadly he had to retire owing to ill health. Bill loved every minute of what turned out to be a very busy life. He was very proud of the amount of money raised for the Fabric Fund for St. Mary's during his time as Chairman of the Friends.

I hope I will be able to spend the rest of my life here surrounded by so many wonderful friends.
