Denise Marshall - Pirton Water Tower

Denise is a member of an old Pirton family - the Weedens - who farmed all round the village. Her husband Jack was in the R.A.F. for many years and then was very involved with the British Legion in the village.

Denise chose the water tower for her design as it was an old landmark in the village. Water came to Pirton in 1933 with the trenches being dug by the unemployed men of the village and the pipes laid by Irish workers who lodged with village families. Each year the tank had to be cleaned out at night when there was a moon - usually around July.

To produce her design Denise's son Rodney photographed the tower and used a computer to produce a chart for her to work from.
