Joyce James - Owl

”We have lived in Pirton for 36 years at 16 Great Green. We have four children who all attended the Village School, and we now have seven grand-children. Polly, our youngest daughter, still lives in Pirton with her husband and two children and our other children all visit Pirton frequently.

The design for the owl was adapted from a design in a book by Stafford Whiteaker. I was attracted by the owl because one sits in our apple tree and visits us every year.

I started tapestry when I made a kneeler for the Church Kneeler Project. I became very interested and have continued to work tapestries and find it a soothing and therapeutic hobby.Three of our children; Richard, Polly and Caroline have become so interested in tapestry that they have also completed work which now hangs in our house. My own interest is now in Medieval Tapestries, I admire the rich colours which are used.

I was glad to be part of the Millennium Screen project.”
