Friends  of  Pirton  Parish  Church

 Founded 1974
Registered charity No: 267281

The existence of The Friends provides a formal vehicle for village residents, past and present, to play an active role in supporting the on-going funding needed to maintain and improve the Norman church of St Mary’s.

In years gone-by, throughout the country, it was usual for local gentry to provide both manpower and means to undertake major repairs to our places of worship. Day to day maintenance requirements were mostly addressed by parishioners as needs arose and to some degree this tradition continues today except that many Pirton parishioners now help to fund some of the major repairs alongside essential maintenance.

These days fund-raising can be fun, just look at the list of local events listed in our parish magazine: The Summer Fair, The Pumpkin Show, The Firework Display, The Christmas Tree …………. there’s something to tempt everyone right through the year.

The Friends of Pirton Parish Church showcase The Pirton Open Gardens is held annually in June. The event, which has been running for over 30 years, heralds the arrival of summer and is now an established and much appreciated excuse for spending an afternoon in the village with family, friends and neighbours. Visiting participating gardens and enjoying the fruits of their owner’s labours along with a cup of English tea and a slice or two of home baked cake! Revenue from the Open Gardens event contributes significantly to our cause and along with other donations and subscriptions collected by The Friends the overall income enables us to pledge support for the on-going maintenance and improvements to the fabric of our church: St Mary’s.

As with all charities, The Friends would like to do more to support our cause; you can help us to achieve this in a number of ways;
